Sidewalks, football field and helping children cross roads

The City of Cape Town has approved a sum of R202 000 for the provision of sidewalks at Robertson House, Cheshire Homes and Barrow Road, Sanddrift in Ward 55 as part of the R2 million ward allocations for the Blaauwberg Subcouncil.

Other projects in this ward, which spans Sunset Links, Tygerhof, Sanddrift, Woodbridge Island, Milnerton, Ysterplaat, Rugby, Paarden Island, Woodstock and Brooklyn, include floodlights for the Saxon Ranger Football Club in Maitland, and Sanddrift Park in Corsair Close.

The five wards of the Blaauwberg Subcouncil will each receive up to R400 000 - R200 000 for capital and R200 000 for operational projects.

Ward 104 which includes Parklands, Du Noon, Killarney Gardens, Killarney and Sunridge, receives R140 000 to provide facilities at the Du Noon sportsfield and R60 000 for speed humps in Dumani and Usasaza Roads in Du Noon. To ensure the safety of children in Du Noon and Doornbach an amount of R30 000 was allocated to appoint a traffic warden to assist children crossing Potsdam Road.

There are only two approved projects in Ward 56 which covers Summer Greens, Acacia Park, Wingfield, Factreton, Kensington and Maitland. The main capital project is the resurfacing of 17th Street in Kensington at a cost of R111 000. The balance of R89 000 will go towards additional lighting at Gilder Crescent, Albacore, Heerlik, Ventura and De Havilland Streets, as well as 11th Avenue.

In Ward 23, which covers Bloubergstrand, Table View, Sunningdale, Bloubergrant, Bloubergrise, Bloubergsands, Atlantic Beach Estate, Melkbosstrand, Van Riebeeckstrand, Duynefontein, Morning Star, Vissershok and West Beach, R50 000 will be used for traffic management measures, another R50 000 for landscaping on Table View beach front, R15 000 for a foot bridge at Melkbosstrand, and R10 000 for new refuse bins and benches along the beach area.

The bulk of the R173 000 allocation for Ward 4 which spans Century City, Flamingo Vlei, Joe Slovo, Killarney Gardens, Milnerton, Milnerton Ridge, Montague Gardens, Phoenix, Royal Ascot, sunset Beach and Table View will be used on the Milnerton Cricket and Tennis Clubs. R50 000 will go towards the upgrading of the cricket pitch and practice nets, whilst R48 000 will be used to resurface eight tennis courts. The balance of R75 000 will be used to construct a footway in Briza Road, Table View.

The largest operational allocation of R200 000 will go towards beach and toilet cleaning in Ward 4, followed by R150 000 for the maintenance and cleaning of toilets in Dunoon. Various other operational projects in the Subcouncil area include the maintenance of ablution facilities, street sweeping and road signage maintenance.
