Canal Walk Shopping Centre was sold by Nedbank in 2003 to retail property specialists Hyprop for R1.6 billion. Hyprop also holds The Glen, Hyde Park and the Mall of Rosebank.
Launched on the 31st July 2006, South Africa's first Puma store opened at shop 505 in Canal Walk Shopping Centre. According to Puma South Africa MD Ronald Rink. "There are plans for more stores to be rolled out in SA and we would most likely look to Johannesburg next. These stores will replicate the hugely successful PUMA stores found in all the major cosmopolitan cities of the world."
The Information Centre is situated on the lower level and provides information on Canal Walk, Cape Town and the Western Cape. It provides an array of tourism services such as accommodation, car and tour bookings for all Cape Town Tourism members as well as South African National Parks bookings. Visitors can also make Computicket bookings and purchase Wild Card tickets, maps, books, postcards and memorabilia. Canal Walk Visitors’ Information Centre also provides wheelchair and pram hire, a tourism shuttle stop, baby changing facilities,gift vouchers and a lost property facility.
In a friendliness test, a woman dropped her papers in front of people in Canal Walk Shopping Centre. Not a single person came forward to help pick up dropped papers.
